Call Letters: City and State/Prov: ![]() WZON, the Sports Zone, is the leading source for radio sports entertainment in Eastern Maine. It is also the flagship station of the University of Maine's sports teams including the 1999 NCAA National Championship Black Bear Hockey Team and men's and women's basketball, baseball, football, field hockey, ice hockey and soccer. In keeping with station owners, Stephen and Tabitha King's, goal to have WZON become an integral part of the community's sports programs, the station's more than 200 live-broadcasts include both University and local high school games. The Sports Zone's morning show from 6 to 9am with Dale Duff and Clem LaBree, kicks off the schedule with an entertaining delivery of up-to-the-minute sports news every Monday through Friday. Every Friday veteran sportscaster, Rich Kimball, and former high school coach, Jim Walsh, join Duff for the Breakfast Club to provide an in-depth sports week in review and to speculate on up-coming events in the week ahead. HangTime, in the 4 to 6pm time slot, is hosted by Dan Hannigan and Wayne Harvey who provide a mix of entertainment news along with a look at the lighter side of sports. In addition to HangTime, Hannigan is also the voice of University of Maine Black Bear Hockey. The Sports Zone is more than just a local radio station. WZON is the Bangor market affiliate for the Boston Red Sox. It is also home to the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and New England Revolutionary Soccer. WZON also serves as the local ESPN radio affiliate featuring Sunday Night Baseball and carries both Sunday Night and Monday Night Football from CBS. In addition, WZON carries NASCAR racing to provide its listening audience with a broad spectrum of sporting-events coverage. ![]() |
