Kilmeade began his career as soon as he finished college. While working for David Letterman, the boss himself advised Kilmeade to find a job that would put him on the air. His ambition landed him a job as a correspondent on Channel One, a daily national high school TV news program.

Kilmeade followed his work at Channel One with a move to Southern California, where he hosted a call-in talk show on XTRA AM 690, and co-hosted the Jim Brown Show with the legendary running back. Dealing with a combination of sports, political, and social issues, the Jim Brown Show gave Kilmeade the unique ability to deliver top-flight reporting on a wide variety of topics.

A move back east has seen Kilmeade wearing the hats for a sports anchor, co-host, producer, and, prior to his appearance on Fox TV, an anchor, host, and feature reporter for Newsport TV.
